About
Hey! Sydnee here (and now). I first discovered yoga when my mom brought me to the Sivanada Retreat in Val Morin 12 years ago.
Over the years, when I needed a break from my busy life, yoga was that safe space for me to get out of my head and into the present moment. I did my 200hr YTT with Nigel Walker at Elevate Studios and my Prenatal yoga training with Melissa Delawney at Pranashanti. Now I can offer to others what yoga has given to me:
inner-connection, self-love and a way to brush away the habitual thoughts and reactions from the day's karma.
I see life like a series of waves, and when you're in the present moment, you riding that wave (surfing is another hobby of mine). I want people to feel their life and catch their moments.
I am also an advocate for equitable access to yoga and wellness practices by All, through an anti-racist and decolonial lense. Currently the projects I am involved in resonating with this mandate include my role as Project Coordinator of Yoga Unity ( more info at yogaunity.ca), doing my Master's of Public Health and most recently, being appointed Chair of the Black Physicians of Canada Wellness Committee.
I also retain the consciousness that every healer must factor their own life in to the world of their work. As a Black Physician in Canada working during the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter Movement, this means for example, upping my self-care with regular meditative and movement practices, respite in Nature, and making space daily for the simple joys, which for me are cooking good meals, hugging my partner and practicing the cello.
